On Sunday 13th July we had a special service which was a first on more than one account; our Sunday morning service wasn't held at 10:15am, as per normal, but at 12 :30pm, it wasn't held at the Eastern Good Companions Club in St. Clement's but at the home of the Le Ruez's and last (but most) of all, it was the first baptisms of "those who are able to answer for themselves" that we have celebrated for a long time. This type of baptism is the counterpart to the other type of baptism we perform which is the baptism of young children. The Revd Henry Le Ruez and Andrew Bird were the ministers performing the baptism where the candidates were given a chance to say something significant concerning their journey in faith in God through Christ, to renounce evil and declare their intention to follow Christ in their lives. The pictures below convey something of the joy and the seriousness of the occasion (click on a picture to see it full-size); After the service the assembly of 80 church members and supporting friends enjoyed a delicious BBQ with an energetic swim for the younger members of the group! |
